Specialist Teaching and Intervention
Specialist dyslexia teaching, tailored to the individual

How I work
Specialist teaching is different from general tutoring. Rather than simply revisiting schoolwork, sessions are carefully planned to address the underlying skills that may be making reading, spelling and written language difficult.
Teaching is individually tailored and may include work on:
phonological awareness • decoding • reading accuracy and fluency • spelling patterns • written language • memory and retrieval strategies
New learning is introduced in small, manageable steps and revisited regularly so that skills become secure. A multisensory approach gives learners opportunities to see, hear, say and actively work with language and spelling patterns.
The aim is to build confidence, independence and a deeper understanding of how each learner learns best, while developing practical strategies they can use both in school and beyond.
Who can specialist teaching help?
Specialist teaching may be appropriate for a learner who:
has dyslexia or a profile of dyslexic difficulties
continues to struggle with reading or spelling despite support
finds it difficult to remember and apply spelling patterns
lacks confidence in literacy
needs a more structured and individualised approach
would benefit from targeted teaching following an assessment or learner profile
A formal diagnosis of dyslexia is not required to access specialist teaching.
What happens before teaching begins?
Before starting intervention, I will discuss your child’s strengths, current difficulties and previous support with you. Where appropriate, existing assessment or school information can be reviewed to help identify suitable starting points and priorities.
If a clearer understanding of the learner’s literacy profile is needed, a Learner Profile Assessment may be recommended before specialist teaching begins...
How sessions work:
Sessions are usually delivered one-to-one and are planned specifically for the individual learner. Progress is reviewed regularly and teaching is adapted as skills develop.
Parents receive feedback about areas covered and progress, with a more detailed review at the end of an agreed block of intervention.
Individualised, multisensory specialist teaching for children and young people aged 8–18, supporting literacy development, confidence and independence.
