Frequently asked questions:
Answers you need :

1. What is a dyslexia assessment?
A full diagnostic dyslexia assessment provides a detailed understanding of how your child learns and processes information. It explores their individual strengths and areas of difficulty and determines whether their profile is consistent with dyslexia. The assessment leads to clear, practical recommendations for home and education.
2. How long does the assessment take?
The assessment session usually takes approximately three to four hours. Regular breaks are included, giving your child time to rest and helping them demonstrate their abilities as comfortably as possible.
3. Who is the assessment suitable for?
Full diagnostic assessments are available for children and young people aged 8–18. They may be helpful when there are ongoing concerns about reading, spelling, writing, memory, processing or the effort needed to complete literacy-based tasks.
4. Will my child be labelled?
No. My approach is strengths-based and neuroaffirming. A diagnosis is not about placing a label on your child; it is about understanding their individual learning profile, recognising their strengths and identifying ways to remove barriers to learning.
5. What does the assessment involve?
The assessment includes a range of age-appropriate activities exploring areas such as language, reasoning, memory, processing speed, reading, spelling and writing. Background information from home and school is also considered to build a complete picture. There is no pass or fail.
6. When will we receive the report?
You will usually receive the full written report within approximately 3–6 weeks of the assessment. I will confirm the expected completion date following the assessment.
7. Is the assessment confidential?
Yes. All information is treated with the strictest confidence. The report is shared with you and will only be provided to a school or another professional with appropriate consent.
8. Will the report be accepted by schools?
Yes. Reports are completed in accordance with current professional guidance by a qualified assessor who holds AMBDA and a current Assessment Practising Certificate. They can be shared with schools, colleges and universities to help inform appropriate support.
9. Can the report be used for examination access arrangements?
The report may provide useful evidence and recommendations when examination access arrangements are being considered. However, arrangements are determined by the school or college in accordance with current JCQ regulations and evidence of the learner’s normal way of working. A diagnosis does not automatically guarantee access arrangements.
10. How much does a full diagnostic assessment cost?
A full diagnostic dyslexia assessment costs £595. This includes the assessment session, scoring and interpretation of the results, a comprehensive written report and personalised recommendations.
11. Do you offer feedback following the assessment?
The written report is detailed and designed to explain the findings clearly. If needed, I can also offer a 30-minute feedback session to talk through the report and answer any remaining questions.
12. What happens after the assessment?
You will receive a comprehensive report explaining your child’s individual profile, the diagnostic outcome and practical recommendations. The report can be shared with their school or setting to help inform appropriate support. I will also be available to offer guidance about suitable next steps where needed.
